BBC Weather: Hottest day of the year boils UK as temperatures rocket
But in the South East, if the record for the hottest day of the year hasn’t been broken already by Saturday’s figures, temperatures in the region could surpass the current 28.2C record on Tuesday.

Mr Burkill said: “The fine weather continues into Monday, it probably won’t be quite as hot [as the weekend] but still well above average temperatures, mid-20s.

“On Tuesday we start to see a change. I think in the South East it could be even hotter than this weekend, we could get 28C possibly even 29C.

“Towards northern parts that’s when we’ll start to see the weather taking a bit of a turn.

“There will be a change during the middle part of the week, timing’s a little bit uncertain, for some it could start around Tuesday, but for some the fine weather could hold on until at least Thursday.

“Definitely by next weekend for many places it could be about 10 degrees cooler compared to this weekend, and as we go through later in the week there is the risk of rain at times.

“It’s not out of the question in the south later in the week we’ll see some heavy thunderstorms developing, it’s a bit uncertain at the moment but it’s a possibility.”
